Some client’s order PowerPoint presentations that may also include speeches. Using the following checklists will ensure that a speech or PowerPoint presentations meet SimpleTense’s expectations.
Speeches
- Use engaging language in a speech which should reads like an oral presentation not as if it’s an essay. Relaxed language is more appropriate for speeches.
- Follow instructions regarding length and content to ensure the speech falls within the time requirements. In general, one hundred words is equivalent to approximately one minute of speaking time.
- Cite sources in the specified format if it is appropriate for the task and the instructions call for it.
- Create the accompanying PowerPoint presentation if the order calls for it after writing the speech.
- Use headers within the speech Word document indicating which PowerPoint slide corresponds with each section of the speech. This will help the client know when to change slides during the presentation.
PowerPoint Presentations
At SimpleTense, one page is equivalent to three PowerPoint slides. Like essays, the title and references slides do not count towards the number of slides ordered. For example, if a client orders three double-spaced pages for a presentation, that means the PowerPoint should have nine content slides in addition to the title and references slides. This will create a total of 11 slides.
Follow directions and pay close attention to any special requirements such as the use of specific graphics.
- Choose a visually appealing design template from Microsoft PowerPoint that fits the theme/topic of the presentation. Do not use templates with blank white backgrounds.
- Include images (e.g., photos, graphs, charts, etc.) on slides to create visual interest. Use the ‘Design Ideas’ function in PowerPoint, located under the ‘Home’ tab, which will generate design variations of the content on the slide.
- Use bullet points and lists which can be used to write informative phrases that complement the accompanying speech that may be ordered with the PowerPoint presentation. Avoid large blocks of text or overly long sentences in slides. If needed, cite sources on slides as would be done in an essay.
By following these checklists, creating a speech with an accompanying PowerPoint presentation will be much easier.
