Guideposts for Writing

Every task on the platform is different, and each client is unique. We generally trust writers will use good judgement, considering both the tangible factors of the prompts and the intangible factors of client experiences, expectations, and language abilities. Some of these latter details can be difficult to guess. When in doubt about personal details, reach out to the client.

Unless a prompt calls for creative or informal writing, please maintain an academic tone throughout your draft. Avoid using contractions (e.g., don’t, can’t, won’t, etc.) and spell words out completely (e.g., do not, cannot, will not, etc.).

In most cases, use the third-person point of view (POV). The second-person POV is acceptable for creative writing tasks, dialogues, or copy for marketing campaigns. The first-person POV is acceptable if task instructions explicitly allow for it (i.e., orders that call for personal opinion and/or experiences).

Some general guideposts for every assignment are as follows:

  • Aim for high-quality copy on every task no matter how large or how small
  • Note the language level on each task and write in an appropriate voice
  • Ensure that you cover all the needs of the prompts, and other materials clients provide
  • Write with authority, keeping in mind that the primary goal is to communicate to clients
  • Maintain academic integrity (i.e., honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, etc.)
  • Be detailed in writing, define terms, and provide examples to scaffold learning
  • Write with a strong depth of thought but tailor essays to suit language levels and the location of clients

The objective is to deliver serviceable, punctual, quality papers that are written in a manner that clients can understand. Employ a commanding voice in straight-forward language using an everyday vocabulary that non-native English speakers would recognize and use. Minimize the use of vernacular language and strive for grammatical accuracy.
